Summary:
To support the institution and CEHBS goal of quality programs, the position of education specialist in the Center for Educator Preparation and Certification Services supports the teacher education academic program clinical experiences as required by the state (ALSDE) and national accreditation requirements (CAEP).
Examples of Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Assist with communicating with school districts and other relevant agencies with whom there are active MOUs and partnerships.
•Assist with confirming that students completing the field experiences and clinical experience courses are appropriately and expeditiously placed in supportive and diverse settings.
•Assist with communicating and adhering to policies and requirements for pre-clinical and field experiences to faculty, students, and P-12 schools and agencies.
•Assist with monitoring the use of Student Learning Licensure for performance assessments in practicum and field experience courses to ensure all field experience assignments and timesheets are completed by the candidates.
•Assist with updates of the field experience and clinical handbooks annually, ensuring that all changes and updates from the Alabama State Department of Education and the Department Chairs are included.
•Assist with data reports for state and national accreditation.
•Assist with monitoring and updating the clinical experiences section of the website.
•Interprets policies and procedures from ALSDE and assist with communicating the changes and updates with students and faculty.
•Consults and cooperates with other internal groups (e.
g.
, Registrar's Office) and external groups (Alabama State Department of Education) in carrying out responsibilities.
•Reviews all applications for the internship, practicums, and residencies to ensure compliance with the Alabama State Board of Education's guidelines for the professional certification programs.
•Assist with record audits of undergraduate and graduate candidates to ensure requirements for participation in the internship.
•Develops and maintains systems to monitor the progress of the clinical experiences for candidates through admission, retention, and completion of the professional teacher education and certification programs.
•Work with applicants and candidates in the program to provide clinical experiences support.
•Assists with the coordination of clinical experience meetings with all stakeholders of the Educator Preparation Program.
•Assists and provides support on special projects as requested.
•Performs cross-training between field and internship placements and admission and certification.
•Performs other duties as assigned in the department.
•Applies the Alabama Administrative Code requirements for clinical experiences, at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.
):
•Bachelor's degree and at least one (1) year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

•Knowledge of principles and procedures related to student advisement and/or related services.
