Position Summary
The Adult Education Instructor teaches adult basic education subjects (Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, History, and other subjects) to students preparing for the GED.
Prepares students for their High School Diploma (ALSDE requirements must be met) and prepares students for the ACT WorkKeys assessment.
All duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Adult Education Director and the Dean of Instruction.
Listed below are the primary responsibilities of this position; however, the Director of Adult Education or his/her designee may assign other professional duties to meet the College’s needs.
This position is full-time, splitting work hours between the Huntsville Day Reporting Center and Limestone Correctional Facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Organizes program on instruction studies in Adult Basic Education.
Instruct students in subject areas.
Plans and supervises students’ work, individually or in small groups, and in classroom or laboratory settings.
Assesses and evaluates the achievement of students in subject knowledge.
Completes required documentation in an accurate and timely manner and maintains the confidentiality of adult education records.
Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and any other meetings called by the Adult Education Director and/or Dean of Instruction.
Participates in in-service training and other continuing education activities to maintain a high level of competence and skill in Adult Basic Education and Correctional Education.
Organizes and completes special projects and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Adult Basic Education Director and/or Dean of Instruction.
Must be eligible to enter any/all Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities to perform the job duties and maintain this status for continued employment.
Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college.
Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity.
