(API, now a subsidiary of AAP) is a member-owned buying cooperative that features a distribution warehouse.
API also designs and implements services for its members needed to run a successful business.
API is currently looking for an Accounting Assistant.
Position: Accounting Assistant
Department: Accounting
Reports To: Controller
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise accounting department operations in the absence of the Controller
· Prepare returns as required by states, counties, and cities revenue authorities
· Ensure compliance with all state, county, and city revenue and other reporting requirements in jurisdictions where the parent organization and subsidiaries have economic nexus
· Examine stale dated checks/AR credit balances and handle them in accordance with states' unclaimed property laws.
· Work as the backup person in the absence of the accounting personnel.
· Supervises or prepares journal entries.
· Prepares or supervises general ledger reconciliations.
· Assures internal control compliance.
· Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements.
· Completes other projects as assigned by Controller.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have knowledge of GAAP, accrual-based accounting, fixed asset accounting, and tax filing requirements.
· Must stay abreast of current industry practices and standards.
· Must have strong supervisory and analytical skills.
· Must have a knowledge base of different software systems and strong computer usage experience, including Excel, Word, and Access.
· Degree in accounting or finance preferred.
· At least two years of accounting experience is preferred.
