06 Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Benefits: Yes Employment Type: Full Time Department: Collections Job Statement: Use established procedures to collect outstanding debts owed to Huntsville Utilities.
Essential Duties: Handle inquires from customers, either in person or by telephone, regarding delinquent debts owed to Huntsville Utilities.
Performs in-depth skip tracing to collect outstanding debts, i.
e.
utility bills, damage claims and invoices.
Handles inquiries and processes grants from various agencies and churches that provide utility payment assistance.
Processes and reviews all bankruptcy documents received.
Obtains pertinent information from the customer in order to collect any outstanding debt.
Initiates legal proceedings utilizing Small Claims Court and Probate Courts to recoup monies owed.
Maintains complete and accurate records of all customer transactions.
Provides customer with adequate and accurate information concerning the status of their account, collections procedures and payment agreements available.
Prepares all correspondence and documents required for processing draws against Utility Bonds and Irrevocable Letters of Credits.
Keeps informed and updated on all matters pertaining to current operating procedures.
Assists in training personnel assigned to the section Cross trains in a variety of job functions to assist in accomplishing the workload of the department.
Uses established procedures to calculate and collect revenue owed for unauthorized use of services.
Provides guidance to all utility employees regarding proper documentation and collection of data in order to accurately bill and collect theft of services.
Understands the collection process, billing procedures and current rate schedules used in calculating and collecting theft of services.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: Education/Training/Certifications: High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience/Skills: Excellent knowledge of customer service procedures and SAP-ECC and ICWeb applications.
A minimum of three (3) years Customer Service experience or one (1) year HU Collections experience required.
Previous collection experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Equipment: Personal computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, ability to use MS Word and Excel to export data, prepare spreadsheets, compose and generate letters.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions: Primary performs sedentary activities in an office environment; some tasks require repetitive motion over an extended period of time.
Other: Ability to use discretion within defined limits and to interface with difficult or irate customers.
