Job Statement: Under direct supervision of the Collections Supervisor.
Coordinates all aspects of collecting charges related to property damages.
Includes working with legal staff to determine and execute all legal remedies available to recover Huntsville Utilities costs.
Essential Duties:
Accumulates, analyzes, and verifies data and documents from all sources, i.
e.
, police reports, trouble reports, internal memos, phone call notes, photos, etc.
, that can contribute to a claim.
Prepares and composes necessary correspondence on claims for property damage, service charges, etc.
, as needed.
Coordinates and follows through with the collection process while following all company policies and procedures.
Respond to all inquiries from billed parties, their insurance carriers, attorneys, etc.
, per our established procedures.
Files, maintains and controls all documents relating to claims for property damage charges.
May be required to go into the field to gather information regarding the claim/damages.
Performs in-depth skip tracing to collect outstanding debts, i.
e.
damage claims, utility bills, and invoices.
Prepares reports as required.
Keep Collections Supervisor informed of problems and claims that may require litigation and/or be charged off.
Will be cross-trained with the duties of the Revenue Protection Specialist to fill in during periods of absences.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Promotes a positive company image through good customer relations and prompt service.
Job Requirements:
Education/Training/Certifications: High School graduate or equivalent.
An associate degree in business or a related field is preferred.
Experience/Skills: A minimum of two (2) years of customer service with two (2) years experience handling claims (preferably construction damage, property damage, or automobile insurance) with the ability to work with the public effectively is required.
Utility Collections/accounts receivable experience preferred.
Should have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to claims investigation and the legal aspects of claims.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook is required.
Ability to efficiently and independently manage workload while exhibiting good judgment.
Must possess effective negotiation skills.
Must be able to work effectively as a team member and independently, without specific direction.
Must be able to communicate with customers, work well with others, and possess the ability to manage the workload while exhibiting good judgment efficiently and independently.
Equipment: Personal computer, calculator, copier, phone.
EquipmPhysical Demands/Environmental Conditions: Primarily performs sedentary activities in an office environment; some tasks require repetitive motion over an extended period of time.
