POSITION TITLE: Assistant Bookkeeper
The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library is a non-profit library system comprised of ten locations providing library and information services to the city of Huntsville and the surrounding Madison County area.
HMCPL is seeking an Assistant Bookkeeper to assist in the daily operations of the administrative and bookkeeping offices.
The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented professional with experience in bookkeeping and working with financial records, including utilizing software such as Little Green Light, QuickBooks, and various MS Office products.
This individual will have a desire for a role in public service and be excited to help develop the future of HMCPL as it supports and encourages the growth of the Huntsville and Madison County area.
LIBRARY LOCATION: Administration Department Downtown Huntsville Library 915 Monroe Street Huntsville, AL 35802 HOURS AND COMPENSATION: This is a full-time, 30 hour a week position with a pay rate of $22.
00 an hour.

General schedule is Monday through Friday.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: This is administrative work as a support staff member of the Administration Department assisting with the financial operations of the library system.
This position requires that the employee have knowledge of accounting and associated fiscal management principles, methods, and practices.
This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Executive Director and other staff as assigned.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Supports library employees and leadership in fulfilling the Library’s Mission Statement: “This is the public’s library.
We empower individuals to create their own futures, explore the universe of ideas, and connect with our community and the world.
” Provides on-going bookkeeping support to the Library system including but not limited to cash handling and record keeping for departments and branches from sources such as checks, interest from investments, honorarium and memorial funds, special events fees, etc.

Maintains all financial records in accordance with Library policy, state and federal laws, and general accounting standards.
Prepares daily bank deposits and completes all associated records as required; Completes all final preparation and processing of checks and invoices as needed.
Maintains all associated administration and financial files including archiving and handling sensitive documents.
Performs bookkeeping and record keeping activities under the direction of the Development Director for transactions related to the Library Foundation and all Friends of the Library groups including maintaining sponsor and donor pledge records and FOL membership records; prepares relevant reports and updates databases as needed.
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of various records and reports utilizing software such as QuickBooks, Little Green Light, MS Excel, etc.

Assists with budget preparation and annual audit as needed.
Adheres to internal controls and confidentiality policies.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting at a computer for extended periods of time.
Requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, and lifting/carrying items generally not exceeding 40 pounds.
Must possess the vision required to read printed materials and a computer screen.
Must possess the ability to hear and speak both in person and over the telephone.
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of office environments.
May interact with upset staff and/or members of the public.
Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles, methods, materials, and practices; knowledge of accounting and database software such as QuickBooks and MS Office; ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; ability to analyze and solve problems; competence in oral and written communications; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, corporate representatives, officials of other agencies, and the general public; proficiency with current computer and internet technology.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: An Associate’s Degree in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field from an accredited college or university plus one (1) year of bookkeeping or accounting experience or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides a demonstrated potential for performing the above listed duties of the position is required.
