Bridge Management Practice Lead Career Area: Engineering - Structural What We're Looking For: The Bridge Manager Practice Leader reports to Barge's Director of Bridge Engineering and provides leadership and oversight of bridge maintenance clients and activities.
This role will lead a team of inspectors, ensuring the safety, quality, and efficiency of bridge inspections.
This role requires a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, inspection methodologies, and project management.
The position offers a mix of office and field work, from leading a team to perform on-site bridge inspections in various locations, most locally with opportunities regionally.
This role is responsible for hiring, developing, and managing technical staff in the region, and partners with Project Managers to assign technical resources to projects.
This role is also responsible to ensure that skills and capabilities match project needs and costs are kept within project budgets.
The success metrics for this role are quality delivery, adherence to project budgets, utilization, and employee experience.
Responsibilities: -Lead and manage a team of bridge inspectors, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
-Lead pre-inspection safety meetings on site.
-Responsible for premobilization safety planning and client submittals, project schedules and timely completion of projects.
-Coordinate team activities, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to project timelines.
-Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
-Conduct detailed inspections of bridges, assessing structural integrity, safety, and compliance with regulations.
-Review existing bridge/structure plans and previous inspection reports to become familiar with a structures' configuration and previously reported deficiencies.
-Supervise above water and underwater bridge and ancillary inspection and evaluations.
-Analyze inspection data and prepare comprehensive reports detailing findings, recommendations, and necessary repairs.
-Utilize advanced inspection techniques and technologies to ensure accuracy and thorough evaluation.
-Stay abreast of relevant regulations and codes pertaining to bridge inspections.
-Ensure that inspection activities comply with all applicable safety and environmental standards.
-Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing updates, addressing concerns, and delivering high-quality customer service.
-Collaborate with clients to understand their specific needs and incorporate feedback into inspection processes.
-Prepare and monitor project budgets and assist in proposal preparation.
Education & Experience Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
-Minimum of 8 years of experience in bridge inspection, bridge repair, load rating, or bridge maintenance.
-Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
-Solid technical knowledge in discipline or market practice area concepts, practices, and procedures.
-Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the organization.
-Effectively collaborate with business and teams to meet defined objectives.
-Ability to effectively manage and motivate employees.
-Sets priorities and reconciles information from competing interests.
-Provide discipline area leadership in the geographic region assigned.
-Successful completion of the FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety of In-Service Bridges training course, FHWA-NHI-130053 Bridge -Inspection Refresher training, or FHWA-NHI-130056 Safety of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers.
-Ability to serve as a qualified bridge inspection team leader and Engineer of Record for inspection and repair design documents.
-Proven experience in bridge inspection, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
-In-depth knowledge of bridge design, construction, and maintenance principles.
-Familiarity with the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, the Manual of Bridge Evaluation (MBE), and other relevant North -American industry codes and standards.
-Strong project management skills, including budgeting and scheduling.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Proficiency in using inspection tools and technologies.
-Ability to travel to project sites as required.
