Job Goal To work with all Math teachers in an effort to achieve 100% Math proficiency for all students
and to develop the expertise it takes to be successful with modeling and coaching all teachers
in the area of Mathematics.
Reports to School Principal as Assigned
Supervises None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An ANA building-based mathematics coach shall have all the following minimum qualifications:
a.
Hold a valid Alabama professional certificate in early childhood education, elementary education, or special education.
b.
Have a minimum of five years' experience as an early childhood education, elementary education, or special education teacher.
c.
Demonstrate expertise, as attested by a current or former employing city or county superintendent of education, in mathematics instruction and intervention and early numeracy interventions, including dyscalculia interventions.
d.
Hold a master's degree or have completed professional development recommended by the Elementary Mathematics Task Force or both.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coaches teachers while mentoring and modeling best practices and teaching strategies through
Mathematics in the Title I school setting.
• Demonstrates knowledge and thorough understanding of College and Career Ready Math Standards.
• Conducts demonstration lessons and models how to be successful with all students in Mathematics.
• Serves as a resource to classroom teachers.
• Plans and provides professional development workshops for Title I Math teachers and serves as a catalyst
for the continuous professional development of Math teachers.
• Secures resources for Title I Math teachers.
• Participates in monthly professional development provided by the district for all Math teachers.
• Serves on the Title I school’s Leadership Team to promote continuous instructional improvement.
• Exhibits evidence of human relations skills.
• Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
• Communicates with parents, colleagues, and community groups.
• Uses correct grammar in written and oral communication.
• Maintains and submits records and reports.
• Adheres to school district rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and State and Federal rules
and regulations.
• Engages in professional growth and development activities.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate for grades K-6 (Elementary) or an endorsement in Mathematics for grades
7-12 (Secondary);
Demonstrated knowledge of Math curriculum and Math curriculum development;
Demonstrated knowledge of the instructional program, instructional design, implementation and evaluation;
Demonstrated knowledge of the state assessment program including, but not limited to, test interpretation
and utilization;
Demonstrated knowledge of the development of school improvement and intervention plans;
Demonstrated knowledge of Mathematics and the ability to model best practices for teaching Math while
using the Coaching Cycle;
Demonstrated knowledge of professional development design to grow adult learnings in Mathematics.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires light work exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently.
Job involves sitting most of the time
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Nine-month year.
Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
