Position Summary The Spanish Adjunct Instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities.
They will provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
The Instructor will adhere to the general and adjunct faculty guidelines as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Personnel Handbook.
Salary: Appropriate placement of Local Salary Schedule "L" at $31.
82 per contact hour Work Hours: Classes are taught day, evening, and weekends on the Huntsville campus.
In addition, multiple forms of distance education are offered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Spanish Adjunct Instructor shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.

Plan, organize, and instruct courses via in-person and/or virtual instruction using the College's learning management system and, as appropriate, distance education tools and software Deliver each class to ensure an effective learning experience Submit to the Division Chair, a course plan for each course to be taught Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area Incorporate current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology (if applicable) into the learning experience Provide classroom instruction in accordance with approved course outlines Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.
e.
preparation and punctuality) Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college Perform additional essential job functions that are unique to the instructor position and/or teaching field Ensure learning outcomes and assessment and improvement of student learning Challenge and cultivate student achievement beyond the classroom Support a diverse population of learners Work in a participatory and collegial setting Support continuous improvement of curricula and services Post and maintain student hours in accordance with prevailing policy Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading and posting of daily assignments, lab assignments, quizzes, and/or exams in the College's learning management system Plan each unit or lesson, as to content, method, and organization to make each class period meaningful Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled Teach all classes according to an approved syllabus; to keep students informed concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements Hold final exams at the time scheduled in the College's semester schedule unless permission to deviate has been approved by the Division Chair and Dean of Instruction Recommend textbooks, instructional materials, and on-line theory and lab curriculum, including classroom and laboratory equipment and/or trainers, to the Division Chair, Assistant Dean of Instruction, or Dean of Instruction Accommodate differing student learning styles in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the College's established ADA program Participate consistently in professional development related to his/her field and current trends for in-person, on-line, and hybrid instruction Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students Assist with registration Actively promote the instructional program through recruitment, retention, success, and completion initiatives Submit required reports to the appropriate administrative personnel Become familiar with and comply with college policies and procedures Convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records Attend faculty meetings, professional development, orientation activities, and other meetings as required Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Division Chair, Assistant Dean of Instruction, Dean of Instruction, and/or President OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate commitment to: Student learning outcomes and assessment and improvement of student learning Student retention and success Challenging and cultivating student achievement beyond the classroom Supporting a diverse population of learners Working in a participatory and collegial setting Supporting continuous improvement of curricula and services Use technology and other innovative approaches to enhance the teaching/learning process Post and maintain student hours in accordance with prevailing policy Job description may be modified at any time by management.
Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree and (18) graduate semester hours in Spanish from a regionally accredited institution Three (3) years of full-time work experience as a practitioner in field Applicants who have questions about specific requirements in a particular teaching field, should contact the Dean of Instruction at 256-551-5226.
