Announcement of Associate Professor in Human Factors & Department Chair Department of Psychology The University of Alabama in Huntsville ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a Department Chair and Associate Professor in the area of Human Factors, with an appointment beginning Fall 2024.
Department Chairs receive their base salary plus an administrative stipend.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will involve serving as Chair of the Department of Psychology, with a focus on enhancing recruitment and retention, growth of our new Ph.
D.
program, and strategic planning for further development of our department.
This role also will include responsibility for strategic leadership in developing and implementing a shared departmental vision; modeling, supporting, and rewarding faculty excellence in teaching and research; developing partnerships and networks across the university, with alumni, and the broader community; communicating with and providing support to Psychology majors; evaluating departmental faculty, including reviews for tenure and promotion; assessing and revising the curriculum; coordinating department course scheduling; managing and administering fiscal resources; and representing the department in college and university-level planning and strategy development.
Additionally, as an Associate Professor, the candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate/graduate level courses in Cognitive Psychology and Human Factors while contributing to the Human Factors concentration in the new Applied Experimental Psychology doctoral program.
The regular teaching load is 6 credit hours per semester.
Additionally, faculty are expected to conduct and publish high-quality scholarly research in a collegial environment where both intra- and inter-disciplinary collaborations are valued.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.
D.
in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Applied Experimental Psychology, or related field is required.
Additionally, candidates should be either at the Associate Professor level already or be able to obtain tenure at UAH prior to starting.
Candidates should have demonstrated a strong record of publications and excellence in teaching.

in Psychological Sciences), an M.

in Experimental Psychology with the option to specialize in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and a newly launched Ph.
D.
in Applied Experimental Psychology (concentrations in Human Factors and Psychology & Law).
Faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service.
The department is comprised of 8 full-time faculty, 7 of which are tenured or tenure-track.
