Announcement of Assistant Professor Position in Systems Engineering Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) Department The University of Alabama in Huntsville RANK: Assistant Professor ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Systems Engineering.
The position is at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor.
Duties include research, teaching, and service with a focus on interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research on the design and development of complex engineered systems.
Areas of interest include model-based systems engineering, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in systems engineering, theory of systems engineering, and other systems-related areas.
Local industries and governmental organizations have embraced the need for methodologies that include the adoption of valid digital modeling environments to design, analyze, verify, and validate complex systems incorporating AI/ML.
Applicant qualifications should include: (a) a Ph.
D.
in engineering or related field; (b) evidence of capability to establish a successful externally funded research program; (c) a strong commitment to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in a research university; (d) interest in working in a cross-disciplinary team environment across multiple academic and research units; (e) have an interest in performing university and professional service.
The ability to obtain a security clearance is preferred.
Work or research experience in the defense and aerospace industries or a background in systems modeling and analysis is also desirable.
APPOINTMENT DATE: August 15, 2024 ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Engineering is comprised of five departments and has the largest enrollment of the university’s six academic colleges.
The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems - secure cyberspace, restore and improve urban infrastructure, and engineer tools of scientific discovery.
Our strategic Flight Plan 2032 seeks to enhance student-centered teaching and learning focused on student success, promote basic and applied research, and engage the local and regional community through outreach and workforce development.
The Industrial and Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (ISEEM) Department offers BSIE, MSE, MSOR, and Ph.
D.
degrees.
The department has an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
Our faculty is currently comprised of six tenure-track/tenured members and one clinical member.
Our student body includes approximately 150 undergraduate and 150 graduate students.
Our faculty’s research interests include: complex systems engineering and design, systems science, model-based systems engineering, incorporation of end-user models and simulations in systems, design preference communication in systems engineering, quality systems design and assessment, lean manufacturing, healthcare systems, additive manufacturing, engineering management, applied statistics, and artificial intelligence/critiquing systems.
Given the large engineering and scientific workforce of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, the Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, and other area industries, rapid growth in faculty, students, and research funding is intended in this field.
